| partners | | In a bit of a switch, Tracie (my favorite and intrepid hiking partner) persuaded me to do a hike today, and I am sure glad that she did. We hiked to Charlebois Spring and this turned out to be a super hike!
We started at the Peralta TH and took the Bluff Springs Trail to the Dutchman Trail, and took that to Charlebois Spring. We then retraced our steps back to the TH.
I had never been on this section of the Dutchman Trail, and it was really nice, especially the riparian areas at LaBarge Spring and Music Canyon Spring. There was even some decent fall foliage near the springs.
There were a number of creek crossings on the hike, and there was water at virtually every crossing. Fortunately, we had no problem keeping our feet dry as there were rocks to step on at every crossing. There seemed to be a good bit of water at every spring that I noticed -- Crystal Spring, Holmes Spring, LaBarge Spring, Music Canyon Spring, and Charlebois Spring.
We saw 2 deer on the Dutchman Trail, but that was the only wildlife that we saw.
We looked around a little bit for the Master Map, but did not find out. I'll have to do some research on the map location the next time that I go out there. We also looked for the "Giant" Saguaro while on the Dutchman Trail, but we did not see it either.
This hike is a keeper in my eyes, and I'm sure that I'll be back out there to do it again sometime. |
