| no partners | | I was looking for a workout hike close to home that had some mileage and elevation gain, and decided to do this lasso loop hike.
The hike started from and ended at the Lost Dog Wash TH in the McDowell Mountains. I took the Sunrise Trail up to the hitching post below Sunrise Peak, and then took the Andrews-Kinsey Trail into the Fountain Hills Preserve. Then I took the Western Loop Trail up the spur trail that goes up to Peak 3098 -- this spur trail is marked "West View Overlook". Then I descended from Peak 3098 back down to the Western Loop Trail, and continued on the loop down to the Promenade Trail. Then I followed the Promenade Trail back to the southern part of the Western Loop Trail, and took it back to the A-K Trail. From there I retraced the route back to the TH.
This isn't the most exciting hike in the world, but it's a good workout and has some decent scenery along the way. There were a few folks out on the Sunrise Trail, but not as many as I would have thought for the day after Christmas. I only saw 2 hikers on the A-K Trail, although there were 6-7 mountain bikers on the trail. |
