plan a was superstition peak 5057 via the balanced rock loop
radar showed showers over the supes at 0615, so we headed for south mountain
san juan road was supposed to be open, but there was a sign on the closed gate near the ranger trailhead: open at 10:00
not having a plan c, we went up ranger, across on bajada then up alta
took the east ridgeline to Maricopa peak
john may or may not have done this before
came down the west side on the use trail
got sprinkled on for a few minutes down low
fog and low clouds were moving into the valleys and over the peaks the entire hike
opted against the over and back to san juan trailhead
after descending alta, we explored the max delta mine area
saw a few mines, some old buildings, tailings piles and rusty stuff
wandered around there for awhile and returned on bajada
breakfast at chase diner in chandler = yum
a fine back up plan, interesting weather and good company
