| no partners | | This is a pleasant hike for most anytime during the year. Spectacular in Autumn but nice today. There were isolated wildflowers - enough to slow me down with picture taking. Monsoon season is starting and the clouds add to the view. The view was a little hazy today. I would rate this a little more than a 4 today but not enough to round up to a 5. So 4 it is.
I haven't hiked this trail since 1968 or 1969 - it just always gets overlooked since it's not too difficult even though it is a really nice trail. Decided to hike it today in contemplation of a Weatherford - Humphrey's - Kachina Loop in the near future.
I started early and had the trail to myself on the way out. I was thinking that it deserved a 5 rating. Several downed trees on the trail added to the difficulty and this trail "roller-coasters" up and down through drainages. On the hike back in, there were lots of hikers and groups - many with dogs off-leash - especially within 2 miles of the TH. Not as many hikers as the Humphrey's Summit trail but enough to remind me why I don't hike this more often and lowered the rating to a 4.
This hike did remind me to always carry raingear during monsoon season.
ps I finished a little sooner so I hiked to the Snowbowl Lodge, took the Agassiz chairlift to the top, hiked around a little and then ate lunch at the Lodge. I hope this lets me post pictures of the chairlift without Joe getting too mad at me. |
