I had planned on hiking to Peter's Mesa. I had not planned on ice, snow and rushing torrents in Tortilla Creek. The ice & snow were melting so there was a lot of mud & slush.

I saw tracks that looked like a huge mulie, but they did not have the two points that I expected at the rear of the hoof and they kept following the trail. :-k

I learned from some backpackers some Llamas had preceded me. That cleared up that mystery. :doh:

I got about 1/4 mile past the Tortilla TH to the first crossing. Two hikers were coming back from the next crossing and said it was even worse and they were turning back.

The three backpackers pushed on. I turned back. If I had my G2 Hydrosocks and Keen water boots, I might have continued. : rambo :

In my non-GoreTex Vasque boots, this was more than I needed.
