| no partners | | Walked in a new area for me: on some State Trust desert west of Rte 79, a little north of the Tom Mix memorial. This is flat barren desert, some of it pretty, and even the grazing areas are healthy looking (cows, and one javelina, ran away from me all day).
I knew archaeologists had studied Hohokam habitation in the general area but I didn't know where exactly and nothing really shows up on the satellite view. (The Hohokam dwellings didn't last, unlike the stone ruins of later cultures further north.) So I just walked around to see what I could see.
I didn't see anything for the first couple miles. Then I started finding pottery and plenty of it. I was hoping I'd see some of the nice painted stuff, but almost everything I found was unpainted, or the markings were hidden by the mud and dust.
Anyway it was interesting enough - I'll likely return. |
