Easy to get to ranch land and a pleasant walk with pottery pieces all the way and past some petroglyphs took me to the top of the crater and a great view all around. The ruin near the top was much better than expected: extensive with big dry walls, in good condition. Made a loop for the return and passed a couple more small sites. While juggling pottery pieces I dropped my camera, open lens first, into the cinders/grit. This caused lens retraction and power on/off problems and when I fought through those I had intermittent over and under exposure errors (don't know why). I salvaged some picture and today after some vacuum cleaning it may be OK.
I drove a couple miles over to walk to the second ruin which is famous as the location where "The Magician" burial was discovered ~80 years ago. Not much to see but the big debris pile and plaza indicates this was a substantial place 900 years ago.
Got rained on coming home. |
