| no partners | | I wanted to devise another loop near Wupatki and settled on starting from the Doney Picnic Site. Though you're not allowed to wander around off-trail in Wupatki National Monument, the road that passes through the NM winds in and out and the Doney spur is actually in the Coconino NF.
Turned out to be a very enjoyable trip where I passed a couple rock arrangements with lots of pottery pieces in the vicinity, an impressive several room ruin with some free-standing walls, and another collapsed ruin on a low mesa top.
I had planned to detour up Doney Mountain on my return but I realized I'd left my hiking poles (helpful going up the loose cinders) behind somewhere. So I back-tracked and eventually found them. Checked out another spur road for a future trip before heading back. |
