The drive in on FR 9366R is rutted and full of bypasses where others have made their way around muddy sections.
I drove in as far as I felt comfortable on stock tires. More capable vehicles can get much closer, w/pinstripping.
Using a @MountainMatt track as a guide, I made my way down the FR towards Pocket Point.
Once the FR peters out, there in a combination of cairns, use trails, etc. to find your way. A gps track and long pants are helpful through some of the Manzanita. Views down into Fossil Springs are outstanding.
Next on the agenda, was to find my way up to to Horsetank Wash to see if I could get any views. It's a pretty area, but the views at the rim were limited.
Breezes throughout the day made this hike very comfortable. The only wildlife on the day, was a single turkey.
No hikers seen on the day, just people camping along the 1st mile of the drive in. |
