From the "observation rock" we went down the steep slope to the left of the rock, traversing above a large downed tree. You could see an intermediate cliff band below, also a nice view spot, but stayed well above that. At a rock chute we stayed to the left in a narrow dirt lined area and descended there. I dislodged a small piece of wood and it bounced all the way to the creek, a reminder how steep it is. Part way down nice view of falls with a mini-Half Dome like sheet of granite coming down the hill in the foreground. We made a traverse above the stream bed, be extremely careful here as it was slick with water runoff and careful foot and hand placement needed.
As you approach the falls a second ribbon like fall smaller and less angled is below you. Very pretty area with lots of columbine and one Yucca blooming. The falls look a less impressive from here but a nice and different perspective. You can't believe you're in Arizona. Of course all of the Ash Creek trail is like that, a rain forest paradise, especially with the humidity today.
Of note, quite a bit of treefall on the beginning area of the trail. |
