Guajalote means Turkey and I saw a few down on the flats and in the sycamore wash.
This is south of Patagonia and the only reason I found about this area is because I was driving around practicing social distancing.
This was a very steep short hike. Lots of cool rocks to hop around on and lots of peripheral peaks and hills to check out.
There are two survey markers at the peak and a register left by the Green Valley Hiking Club.
I found evidence of a test dig for a mine and three car batteries at the top which is weird because there is no sign of a road anywhere.
Chased a deer or two and a wild cat was slinking around on the way up. And got buzzed by a BP drone. This scared me because it sounded like bees. LOTS of bees.

There was a minimal amount of water in the tank.

You need a 4wd to get up there from the Duquesne road side. UX rd
Along the way there is the ghost town site of Harshaw with a rundown cemetery and some adobe walls. Nearby there is a farm with about 20 peacocks. Odd things to see in Southern AZ.

There are lots of mines in this area with tailings to poke through for minerals and crystals. I didn’t go in the mines.
I live right on the border in Nogales and it took about 35 minutes to get to the jump off point.
Round trip for the hike was 2.5 hours. It was 8-9 degrees cooler at the flats and peak than in Patagonia. After getting back down I checked out the area around an unnamed tank and found some dirty crystals. Some cleaned up pretty nice.
Red hill is nearby and it’s a quick dash to the top. There is a mine at the base and it looks like it was a pretty big operation.

There is little illegals trash. Some definite old coyote lookout sites.
This is a recon trip for a birthday hike with my gal on the 22nd. We spent about half an hour at the top enjoying the views into Mexico and Soldier basin. Afterward we headed to the border fence and looked for border markers. There are 7-8 that can be found on the other side of the fence and a couple that you can hop over into the Mexico side for a close up picture.

You can spend from zero to 8 hours around here easily and see interesting things about the whole time.
