There were a lot of signs along the trail that explained the events from the Great Fire of August 1910. Very interesting history, and I’m surprised a movie hasn’t been made about it. Or maybe one has and I just don’t know it because I rarely watch movies.
The second half of the trail is a little steeper, but still pretty easy. Seeing the tunnel at the end was sobering, and with as green as the mountainsides were today, it was hard to imagine a fire raging through them. Easy hike back down, and we passed several hikers. Obviously a popular trail in the area, and it’s best to get an early start for good parking. |
