| no partners | | Left my place at 2200 and started hiking at 0100. Cool, but not cold, and no breeze to start. Clear skies allowed for abundant stars on display. The first three miles are always okay, but I don’t really like the last mile (especially the last half mile) up to the saddle.
Once finally at the saddle, a short break, then up to the summit. I love the mile up to the summit. It was still dark, but easy to stay on trail. Finally turned off the headlamps just before the summit at 0500.
Immediately, an obvoxious dog started barking. Its owners were camped literally at the summit, against the sign. They seemed annoyed at having been woken up that early. Oh well, that’s what you get for sleeping literally on a busy trail where you’re not supposed to be camping anyway.
Ate breakfast and watched the sunrise, then headed back down at 0530. Hadn’t seen anyone else besides the grumpy campers up to this point, but hordes of hikers heading up the rest of the morning. Easy hike back down, chatted with a few hikers, and finished up around 0820. Rained from about 0840 to 0915 while driving. Back to my place by 1115. Will have to do this as a sunrise summit again. |
