Half of the summit parking lot is ribboned-off no entry. The right side was a third full. Heading up, skies were hazy. Perfect temps and a light breeze put the 40% chance of thunderstorms to rest. I brought an umbrella, a raincoat, and hand warmers because this one time with Wally was a numbing experience.
Passing over Philomena below, I said hello to the spring few visit. On that note, I stumbled and threw the tester RS iPhone across the sharp-edged volcanic boulders. Not a scratch, and it still recorded a perfect track while Android coughed up loogies.
Not a hint of snow on the Weatherford switchback. Boo, hoo. Passing Fredoylemont Saddle, I love the character-rich pine-lined trail. Yeah, it's just a crappy old road, but it's an enjoyable and memorable experience. I met up with Ray just before the Inner Basin junction. We had a nice hike out.
I witnessed among the lightest hiker traffic I recall on #151 and #29 trails. Average turnout is the new normal! The road to Lockett Meadow is the standard no-concern condition unless bringing the weekend lowrider. |
