This was a great hike that exceeded my expectations. The trail was great, which made the hike easier than 8.5 miles with 3,000' of elevation gain would suggest.
The weather was great -- it was in the upper 50's when we started and I imagine was in the low 70's when we finished. It was not very windy, although there was a bit of a breeze on the descent.
We started early and did not see many people on the way up or at the summit. We met a few people on our way down, but not too many.
There are some other trails in the area, and I wish that I had more time to check them out. In particular, the off-trail ascent of El Capitan looks like a fun climb! |
