| no partners | | I decided to head up to the Rim to check out the fall foliage and Beaver Turkey Ridge did not disappoint.
We did a loop hike starting and ending at the Hatchery TH. We went east on Highline to Horton Spring; took the steep Horton Spring Trail up to the Rim; wandered around Beaver Turkey Ridge; and then came back to the TH on the Babe Haught Trail.
Foliage on Beaver Turkey Ridge was a bit past prime, but there were pockets of some really nice fall color. It was very enjoyable hiking through there.
There was no fall color yet around Horton Spring. I imagine that it will be a week, and possibly 2 weeks, before any fall color shows up around the spring.
We saw a small tarantula on the Highline Trail, and we saw a single elk in 2 different places on Beaver Turkey -- one cow and one bull.
It was definitely a great day to be hiking up on the Rim! |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial The foliage on Beaver Turkey Ridge was a bit past its prime, but in many places it was really, really nice. There was lots of red, orange, and yellow. |
