| no partners | | I had not been to the Peralta TH since COVID started, so I decided to head out there today. It turned out to be a nice day for a hike, the hazy skies around mid-day notwithstanding.
We did a CW lollipop loop: TH>Peralta>Dutchman>Terrapin>Weavers Crosscut>Peralta>TH
There was no burn evidence until we almost got to Peralta Saddle. Thereafter there were quite a few heavily burned areas, but other areas were untouched. There was not much vegetation at all on the Crosscut Trail -- the terrain in this section was very moon-like. You could smell the soot along the Crosscut.
It got really hazy by late morning -- it almost looked like smoke, but it wasn't.
I think that we saw 3 people total north of Fremont Saddle. We met lots of people as we descended on the Peralta Trail from Fremont Saddle though -- way more people that I have seen on a hiking trail since COVID. |
