Figured it would be perfect day with cloud cover most of the day. Encountered one returning hiker in the first mile and saw no one else until Carney Springs. I realize most don’t consider the rolling trail over the waves of ridges from the south side of the mountain very exciting but the views of the mountain are quite nice. There is also nice Sagauro scenery from about the 4 mile mark to Carney Springs. I was using route scout to clock miles but with my device whenever I leave the app to go to another usually for a picture it comes back to loading , fortunately no route finding necessary on this trail. Anyway ran into several others at Carney Springs along with a multitude of white arrows painted on the rock to make sure you can find the wave cave. After crossing the drainage on the last steep area there was enough racket coming from the cave it deterred me from proceeding to the entrance. Some may prefer this as a shuttle hike I didn’t mind the retracing of the nicely maintained trail. No wildlife was spotted , some cow pies near the base of Turks Head and some mooing but never spotted the cattle. Apparently there was enough rain this past Sunday to leave a little water in the bedrock mortars at the halfway point , useful for wetting a hat anyway. Nice alternative to try to stay out of the burn areas. |
