A great view of the moon and snow-capped mountains to start. Some gentle hills outside Astorga leading up to a fantastic view at San Justo overlooking Astorga. Astorga is a big chocolate area...almost lost me there. Bought two chocolate bars, one an orange chocolate which was great. Sat in the plaza for a few minutes, then continued. I passed a shop advertising churros and chocolate, which someone had advised me to try. I stopped and initially asked for 6 churritos alone. Their special was 6 churritos, cafe and chocolate. I'd already had a snack and asked for a chocolate pastry. The waitress was surprised but took my order. I found a table and started eating my pastry. Next thing I know, she brings me 6 churritos and cup of chocolate...free. On her. An act of kindness. My first Camino Angel! That's why I dedicate this stage to Sun Joo, who always practices these acts.
San Justo is where the Camino first started to open up for me with its view. Until then it had been somewhat bland. I'm staying in a great albergue, Las Aguedas, where I had a communal dinner with other hikers. I doubt I'll go hungry out here. Soup, main course, and dessert. Many different nationalities at the dinner table...Korea, Brazil, Germany, Australia, among others. And I'm staying with the same German couple as last night. |
