| no partners | | | Got to the First Water TH just before 0800 and headed out. Breezy, but not particularly cool. Some fire damage along the first couple miles of Second Water trail, but it didn't seem all that bad to me. The route up Boulder Canyon was well cairned and easy to follow. Headed over the saddle at the south end of Battleship and down to La Barge. Steep and rocky in a few places, but also not bad. Some pools of water in La Barge Box, where we stopped for a snack. After that, we continued north until reaching Boulder Canyon again. Mostly well cairned, but some route finding to avoid the worst of the boulders and vegetation. No real water to speak of, so at least that made travel easier. It was getting warm by the time we looped back around to Second Water, and the hike back out was toasty at times. Only saw a few people all day, plus three horses, and coyote. Heard a dog barking while we were snacking, but never saw it. Good day! |
