Peck Canyon – Wolf Canyon
Today was supposed to be all on the road the goes up Peck Canyon.
BUT
.75 miles in I remembered a small deep tank at the mouth of Wolf Canyon and headed up that way… for just a bit. About 50 yards upstream from the dam the canyon forks and today I took the way to the right. This gets narrow and steep very quickly. By the time I got out of this I had gained enough elevation that it made more sense to head up to the cliffs above instead of just heading back down into Wolf Canyon.
-
From the top of the cliffs the road that leads toward Dutchman Tank is visible. This road is blocked by a downed tree atm. It seemed to get hot really fast, so I headed down the cliffs on the shady side and rested for about 15 minutes. All of a sudden, I heard a bee sound. It sounded like a million of them.
The sound was way too steady and hovered longer than a swarm of bees so I’m guessing it was a BP drone.
-
From here I headed just about straight down in the Wolf Canyon and up the other side and skirted the mtn back to the road. My original goal was to make it to the Windmill but I used up a lot of time going off trail and needed to be back by my noon check in time.
-
On the way back I stayed on the road until I got back to the truck. Found some core samples with a note. Another weird find was a tea kettle.
-
Used up 3 quarts of water. Hot and humid and not much breeze to speak of.
No water in Peck, Fresno, Lost dog or Wolf Canyons.
