Water Tank Hill at Pena Blanca Lake
Worked hard yesterday cleaning the garage so today I took it easy and stayed on a road instead of trekking.
West on exit 12 on I-19 – This is Ruby Road.
Right at the intersection that leads to the lake. –
Park below the water tank.
-
Up until last year this road was impassable unless you had a 4wd with high clearance.
Now a passenger can make it to the gate easily.
-
I parked at the open area below the water tank and headed out toward Bellota Canyon.
The first mile ends at the one spot where there is cell reception.
This is also a hike I do regularly to keep track of my time which today was 21 minutes.
Fastest time ever was 18 minutes and that was 4 years ago.
The road is mostly uphill with only one steep section.
-
Beyond this take the next right. This road leads down into the canyon and you will 4wd to get out.
I, instead, headed to a flat area that overlooks the canyon then took a break in the shade and enjoyed listening to the quiet and headed back.
7:17 – left the truck
7:37 – 1 mile mark
8:00 – headed back
8:30 – back at the truck
It took longer to get back because I saw a big white board on my way in and I wanted to see what it was.
Turned out to be a 3x4 foot piece Styrofoam that someone used as a target.
-
Nice cardio workout.
Great views of:
Atascoasa
Waterfall Rock
Tarantalla Rock
Thumb Butte
White Cliffs
Great Morning Cardio |
