Very humid, not much breeze, but relatively cool. Lots and lots of frogs/toads. And those caterpillars. And butterflies.
Celina was feeling warm going uphill, so we took our time, plus a few breaks. From Fremont Saddle, we headed out to the overlook at the tree, then down Cave trail. Very overgrown in several places, and there were several times I was just hoping I wasn’t going to step on a rattler in the tall grass. The grass and erosion made the trail a little hard to follow in places, but I’ve hiked it enough to quickly get back on track when we veered off course.
Uneventful hike down Bluff Springs trail, which was very rocky, to finish out the loop. Great day, with plenty of clouds and good lighting for nice pictures. Only crossed paths with one other hiker, just below Fremont Saddle, but I know there were two hikers at least a half mile ahead of us on Cave trail. |
