I parked on the hill below and hiked counterclockwise. I was immediately surprised by the significant trail erosion as I went up to join the main trail. My neighbor said we had one heck of a storm when I was gone and today I would see the results of that as several areas, the trail was trashed with ruts and little gullies in places. It must have been a heck of a storm to cause that much damage to this type of trail tread.
Today on the west side I had a twofer: shade and a breeze. Usually on this west side there isn't any kind of breeze so I just usually relish the shade. I saw a couple plants on this side, one I think the Spiderling and the other that looks like a corn plant. Google lens had a tough time IDing either but I should try and take better quality photos too. As I came up toward the saddle when I was heading east, there was another new plant that I spent 1/2 hour trying to ID but I'm not sure. It is a new one to me.
As I continued east I was struck by the greeness of the area. It is September! I saw the girl with the overnite pack I had seen earlier. She didn't hike very far before turning back. I would pass her on the east side and again on the hill down to the cars. There weren't too many cars in the TH lot.
I encountered a little more than 1/2 dozen hikers and two lizards. Didn't make the best of time today but it was still a tad warm, actually more humid than I like. But, at least, I completed the loop.
@Paintninaz Tracy sent me a FB message that Singh Meadow had huckleberries for sale so I drove to Tempe to get those. Thankfully they still had some left for me.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
