Clockwise. Just as I topped going over that first east hill and started coming over, I saw... wait for it.... rangers! What! I've been hiking here for 20 years and have never seen a ranger on the trail and told them such. They were surprised. There were 4 people including stewards that had surveyed some of the trail work that had been done. Josh, the head guy, immediately tried to recruit me for volunteer stewardship when I had mentioned first time seeing rangers after hiking here for 20 years.

Anyway, I did find out Phoenix Parks is working on a reroute of Trail 25 that transects the south side of Lookout Mountain https://www.phoenix.gov/parks/trails/projects. He gave me the phone number to call as I assured him that next year I hoped to be able to officially help out here. Further research I found: There are 200 miles of trails via 41,000 acres in the Phoenix Preserve system.

Anyway, it was slightly breezy for the hike which was great and the sun was very lightly muted once in awhile. I saw only three other hikers and no lizards and very few birds.

This is my 75th triplog for Lookout Mountain Circumference with the first one recorded in 2008 though I've hiked here unofficially since 2000 as I moved to the 'hood in 1997. That first recorded trip I did twice as I forgot my camera the first time and went and hiked it again. I was lucky enough to get several great photos of a Prairie Falcon [ photoset ] . (I have 29 trips officially recorded for the Summit Trail.)

WATCH: 2.95 miles taking 1766 steps avg 142 bpm, max 174 with 61% at max, 31% at zone 4 and 5% at zone 3 burning 469 calories. Starting temp 80.5 and 36% humidity finishing at 10:56AM

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
