| no partners | | On my way from St. George, Utah to Las Vegas, I decided to stop by the Whitney Pass Fire Lookout and check it out.
I was originally going to drive from Mesquite, NV to the lookout, but I stopped by the BLM office in St. George on my way out of town and they talked me into taking exit 112 off of I-15 and going down Gold Butte Road instead. If you went from Mesquite, you'd have to go through Lime Kiln Canyon where the road is "pretty rough".
Gold Butte Road is paved, but it is a good candidate for being repaved. The last 6 miles or so to the lookout are on unpaved roads, but a 4WD vehicle is not necessary.
This is a pretty cool lookout and I was glad that I checked it out. Even though the lookout is in Nevada, the way that it is situated it would only detect a fire that was in Arizona.
The GPS track that I attached shows my drive from I-15 to where I parked at the lookout. |
