| no partners | | I headed out today to do 2 short but steep hikes that I had not done before:
1) Black Mountain in Cave Creek
2) Vulture Peak, not far from Wickenburg
Black Mountain CC
The first stop was Black Mountain in Cave Crick, deep in the heart of @LosDosSloFolks territory. This hike was pretty much straight uphill -- trailmakers apparently did not know what switchbacks are! The trail was steep and slippery in places, and was almost easier and safer going up than going down. There were nice views to be had of the Cave Creek area from the summit.
I enjoyed the hike and if I lived in the area I would do this one occasionally!
Vulture Peak
For the most part I thought that this one was easier than the Black Mountain hike, although there was a short class 3ish section just below the summit. It was an easy class 3 though, with good, solid, high quality, grippy rock.
I located the benchmark and reference marks #1 and #3 -- all were in good shape. However, I did not see reference mark #2.
Synopsis
I enjoyed both of these hikes, and if they were closer to where I live I'd do them again.
Distance and accumulated elevation gain for the 2 hikes is below. Stats above are the sum of the two.
Black Mountain CC: 2.47 miles with 1,234 feet of AEG
Vulture Peak: 4.42 miles with 1,472 feet of AEG |
