| no partners | | We decided to do a Night Hike in the area since this area is so heavily utilized by bikers. I went to the Hawes Trailforks webpage
https://www.trailforks.com/region/hawes ... -111.66127
and put together a 9ish mile hike with the following segments:
1. Wild Horse
2. Red Mountain Rush
3. Sunset Ridge
4. Mine
5. Riverview
Got GPS coordinates for all of the intersections on my GPS and we headed out. Got there about 7pm and discovered I had forgotten the GPS.
I did have the trails written down along with a section of the map on paper, so I figured we would still be fine. Also had my Watch GPS to record my tracks, but didn't download the waypoints. Anyhow things went well up to Red Mountain Rush, but the intersections we came across on the mountain did NOT match what was on the website. Ended up going down on the wrong side of the mountain on High Ridge. Finally the wife put her foot down and we retraced our steps back the way we came.
Bummed out that we didn't get the loop done, but that Red Mountain Rush trail is something else(really cool). Views are great up there. We will have to go back and do the loop. I can see possibilities for about different loops between 8-13 miles(I'm guessing) that I would like to do.
I think hiking in this area during the day could be dangerous due to all the bikes, but a night hike is perfect since the trails are very easy to follow (except you need to get GPS coordinates of the intersections since some of the trails don't seem to match what's on the website).
Look forward to doing the loop hike next chance we get. |
