We drove out to our starting location for a 1:00 start after getting a wee bit lost on the maze of roads going in. The gauging station looked about the same as it did last week when we were here but the creek to the narrows was much different from 2 years ago. Last summers rain really changed things, the brush isn't quite as thick but there is a lot of debris in the creek from the high flow. Must have been something to see when the creek was running that high. We made a stop at the Total Wreck mine boiler that is off to the west of the creek about 100 yards in Pump Canyon. The creek was running pretty good, enough so that it made it hard to get across without getting your boots wet. The water amount increased as you got closer to the Narrows from water coming in from the either the Empire Mts or the whetstones. Most of this water entering the stream was from seepage not actual flow in creeks, this made many of the areas very mucky. On the way in we were mainly on the east side of the creek and this was a bit slow as the creek kept pinching us off against the short cliffs along the creek. The return trip we stayed west for the most part and this worked out better. We made it to just about .2 miles from the narrows when we had to turn back due to time restraints.
Great time of year to do this hike, good amount of flow but not too much to make it difficult. Crossing the stream was actually quite easy once you decide you don't mind getting your boots in the water. The harder part is to decide you don't mind just walking in the muck and getting them muddy. I was here in March of 2020 and the creek wasn't running this much so this is a good year.
