It was a little muddy on the drive in and the initial walking was cold, windy, and muddy. If anyone had been with me I'd have whined like a webmaster. The first bump I wanted to check out was thickly-bushed and looked unpleasant so I went off script and just headed to the next hill that had the "known" ruin. It was large with many rooms covering the whole top. There had been a fair amount of digging which showed wall detail in quite a few places. Since I was still internal-whining I was thinking I'd head back to the car and so I spent a fair amount of time looking around this ruin.
But the sun poked through and the day improved and so I continued along my original planned route to random walk the mesa below to see what I could see. At the bottom of the hill I found some pottery and a small ruin but then further along the catclaw got too much and I decided to circle back. Passed a petroglyph along the way which forced me to look a little closer, and then another pottery concentration, though I couldn't find an associated habitation site.
I was happy that Seven Springs Road had dried out a little for the return and the day turned out better than it started. |
