| no partners | | Second day up north I planned two walks in the Petrified Forest The first one involved finding some glyphs I missed the first time (I got some helpful directions from a "HAZ buddy" in the interim).
A brisk wind was blowing: no hat today! Luckily I brought a windbreaker with a hood and the sun eventually poked out so it wasn't so bad. But standing near an edge was not a good idea and I skipped the 2nd hike when I felt the wind in my face at the start.
But the petroglyph walk was fun. Many, many, big rocks and it's easy to miss the petroglyphs unless you look in the right place. There are some obvious paths between the boulders but scrambling and searching paid off in the search and there are some nice ones.
I was surprised to see a lot of cars and obvious "National Park visitors" at PFNP...more than I've ever seen before. Reminded me of personal trips to NPs 50-60 years ago - special places. |
