| no partners | | Only my second time on this trail. I really enjoyed Table Top when I hiked it in 2017 and have been looking forward to doing it again every since.
The long dirt road to the trailhead was in decent shape. My Cherokee had no problems. High ground clearance vehicle is strongly recommended. There is one sandy spot about 5 or 6 miles in from I-8 that made me a little nervous, but otherwise no problems. Google maps said that the speed limit on the dirt road is 55mph, but I drove a lot slower than that.
The pit toilet door doesn't close all the way, but at least it wasn't stinky. Not much tp, so bring your own.
There was a car with a camper trailer in the campground, but we didn't see it hear any people.
If was sunny with a cool breeze. As we climbed the 50 it so switchbacks the wind got strong and cold. Unfortunately it was a bit hazy. Could barely make out Picacho Peak, and couldn't see Four Peaks at all. Bummer. But the view of the nearby dessert was still gorgeous.
On the way down saw a little snake. He was right on the side of the trail. The first two in our group walked right past him. He waited for me to snap a couple of pictures then took off. Saw some quail and a couple of lizards too.
When we got back to the sign in log we saw that we were the only ones to sign in that day. We had the whole mountain to ourselves. It was great. |
