Route Scout GPS Route Recorded on Route Scout View
Yesterday morning, I pointed out one of the windows in my house and said to my kids, “See that mountain down there? That’s Table Top, and we’re going to hike it tomorrow.” And we did.

We got started shortly before 10:00 to cool, cloudy, and breezy conditions. As usual, the first couple of miles were easy, before reaching the steep climb uphill. We took our time, and made it to the top before too long. Easy walk across the top to the high point. We had our biggest snack break at the summit before heading back down. Slow descent through the steep part, but then the pace picked up for the last couple of miles. We finished up just before 5:00pm. Didn’t see anybody else all day. Wildflowers galore along the entire trail. Saw two snakes on the way back.

Trail is easy to follow, but brushy in a few spots. Some light vegetation pruning wouldn’t be a bad idea. Vekol Rd is in very good shape right now, medium clearance is fine on Vekol. The four miles on 8024 are a little rougher—medium clearance fine for the first three miles, higher clearance or a confident driver for the last mile to the trailhead. I did notice that maybe 3/4 mile before the trailhead there’s a wilderness sign and placard with a clearing for parking about four vehicles. This would be a good option for folks who are wanting to do this hike right now but can’t drive the last little bit to the trailhead. The 9 mile hike would be closer to 11, but no real change in elevation gain.

Kids liked the hike, and didn’t mind the steep section. One of my son’s bigger hikes to date, but he did just fine.

Wildflowers Observation Substantial
Plentiful flowers, wide variety. Very pretty right now.
