| no partners | | Deb had a meeting and dropped me off at the Pine TH. Only one car in the lot. 24 degrees had something to do with that. 10 minutes in I was 2nd guessing my choice of jeans and hiking boots. There was just a bit of snow left over from the 2 previous storms to this point.
Once I hit the 6000' contour, in the shade, I was happy with my choice of dress. 12-18" of snow and the temps felt in the upper 20's. The majority of the trip was in 6-8" of snow. I was the first one through since all the snow.
I got to one section of trail where the elk had been tearing it up. I was shocked I had not seen one. I rounded one corner and saw 3 elk, then 5 more, then another group scattering. I think the entire Pine herd of 40 elk scattered through the hillside.
After the intersection with the East Rim Trail, I started shedding layers of cloths. It was quite comfortable the remainder of the hike. |
