| no partners | | Back to one of my favorite spots. I was feeling pretty sporty, pulled into my favorite vehicle camp area.
Leveled out the Jeep then did a short evening hike in a wash behind the camp area which is in a flat notch in a small pass ( views are great here). I had no pack just a camera over my shoulder. Of course found a neat large snake skeleton I decided I wanted then had to negotiate a couple of dry falls before back to camp; not easy holding a snake skeleton.
Evening ramble revealed some more stuff. The next morning pulling on my boots in a sunny spot saw a large pot shard, with the remnant rim; seemed rather poorly made. My camp area showed signs of being an older camp, with some old glass and a weathered can or two. Knowing some ruins upcanyon I had a feeling this might have at one time been home to some pot hunters; illegal or legal who knows.
Up the old at times grass covered jeep trail. Left it near the head of the canyon and struck out on a ridgeline. Wore myself out getting into an alcove, then the brush tearing traverse along a rock face to get to the main ridgeline. Of course great views. Looking for another rock window but was not far enough along this part of the ridge which knife edged. Wandered back down, trying to stay upright in heavy wind gusts. Spent more time at the ruins site and discovered the "motherinlaw" suites, a couple of rooms down and across the wash from the main site. Some of the small rooms were well guarded by catclaw and prickly pear. However I was rewarded with lots of pot shards and lots of rim pieces. This area seems pot hunted as the old road went literally thru the middle of it. I revised my room count up to about 10, maybe more.
Back down to the Jeep. I have a view I took a photo of some years ago that I am trying to relocate, for perhaps a better pic. I think I will have to go in on the other side of this area to get at it. Never a waste of time here. |
