| no partners | | This weather is still optimal for areas that would normally be too darn hot. Drove in to cowboys rounding up cattle; took a bit to get to the campsite. Nice cool night. Finish the drive to the large tank, a lot nicer area than I thought it would be.
The hike down the developing canyon was pretty nice with old road/ cow trails to follow. Some of the wash was very smooth silt from the past winters run off. I enjoyed looking up at the hills, with distinctive rocky faces.
Finally the rough stuff began. True to form, boulder chokes, some short pour offs and lots of rock hopping. I ran out of gas just short of the goal, and came back high along the face of some cliffs to avoid the boulder jumbles. A few ruins, not in the best of shape hugged the cliff base. One wall had some nice chinking work in the lower part, the upper was more haphazard making me think several people worked on this one. Above one of the pouroffs where another canyon came in were some nice almost meadow like flats and I wonder if in the day were used to grow whatever they could there.
Made the trip home with the Jeep running well; it might just be an overfill issue on the front diff. Might've dodged an expensive bullet on that one. |
