| no partners | | This spring just keeps on giving. As I drove up the old road the flower show was mostly blues and purples, large masses with the saguaros. Mostly scorpion weed, lupine and Blue D's. The poppies were still around and this time I found some owl clover in some abundance instead a few here and there.
I parked at the head of an old mining road. Nobody driving it because very hard to see and doesn't really get you anywhere except the main wash which is some rough driving. I ascended the other side on a very decrepit eroded road that ended at a drill site. The canyon below looked very interesting and besides I wanted to see if it was doable. I was unable to descend where I was so back down the road ( flowers a major distaction) then up the little canyon.
It was narrow and bouldery as it twisted up quickly. Really good footing and I made good time. Brushy and more open in the middle; then some grayish blocks with pools and lots of bees and wasps. Then the business started in the tall dark walls, and the scrambles. Only one gave me pause; a 20 footer I got up but then was uneasy if I had to reverse the route. Oh well, commitment to the upper canyon.
I found a short build of old trail with rock fill and everything. I was able to scramble up to a mining road; passing a neat arrastre on a bench.
The road I had been on before it would take me out of the way to get back to the Jeep. Necessitated an off trail including butt scooting to get to the main wash bottom and back up the old road cut to the Jeep.
I drove on up the main road to a wonderful full on flower garden most everywhere. I saw no other people or vehicles.
A great day and just a great spring for the flowerophiles. |
