Drove up to enjoyment of not having to have the AC on in the Toyota. Camped not in my favorite spot; I reserve that for during monsoon, but another end of a rough old logging trail. It was a great and used spot but it was interesting the road went on without any apparent traffic and low hanging branches. A couple of logs down a short distance on probably the reason. I walked it and found a pleasant ravine with a trickling brook that I followed full of water loving vegetation. I had aggressive fern bushwacking, so thick in spots the plants acted like grapevines trying to tangle my feet. Signs of old and newer logging. It reminded me a tiny bit of what Ash Creek trail had been like before the fire. I pushed thru some grapevine tunnels and huge tree fall. I wandered back on the opposite side of the ravine, looking for any signs of a trail as I found a few logs that had been placed for a stream crossing. I didn't find anything off the old road.
Next day a hike on the Clark Peak trail. I wasn't feeling it so only went a couple of miles. Great views. The monsoon is trying, clouds and humidity, my sunshirt was soaked and so was the back of my camera chest carrier. The trail is interesting after a wet winter and spring and no trail work. Parts of it are a significant bushwack, you feel the trail with your feet, some tree fall, a fair amount of debris on the trail giving it that derelict look. The sunnier and drier parts only have minimal vegetation crowding the trail. There is a trail split that I think a hiker made off trail to Clark Peak now looks like the main trail. The main trail trends left and looks like a low level thing with vegetation and little traffic. Around the corner it improves. If you don't know the area or not with a map or GPS this might be a problem. I turned around past the rock cliff face, in thick vegetation.
Back down the road. Fair amount of traffic up here right now as I would expect, it was a pleasant 60's and 70's according to the car thermometer.
Plan on taking a bit more time if hiking this trail, until it gets some maintenance.
