| partners | | Ambika decided we should do this. I was somewhat reluctant since everyone is going there but I agreed and met up with her at 7:30AM at her house for the drive. We arrived around 8:15AM and got in about 20 minutes later. We drove all the way to Sunset TH to assess the situation and decided to park at the Anza Loop Day Use area. We hiked back down to the Park Road Trail and headed west on the north side of the road. We would veer off the trail several times to shoot photos in all directions and of all things around us, but mostly wildflowers. Ambika had her big gun out and I was working with Pro Mode on my Ultra 22.
The star of the show here at the Park was really the Lupine. We're all used to seeing Poppies and some Lupine but this spring, it's Purple Rain or one of my favorite groups, Deep Purple. We found this one gully that we stepped down into giving us eye level shots of the flowers and the cactus above. After stepping out of there and a stop at one of the group picnic sites to review Pro mode we headed to the restroom area of the main campground. In the south distance we could see lakes of poppies dotted with little islands of Lupine; at least that's the way we decided to describe it. Near one of the camping spots we finally got to see some white poppies and pink mallow.
We continued east on the south side of the road and as we headed up to get a photo off the road, a ranger stopped in her vehicle and told us that was a no-no; even though there was a bit of a use area to this spot. Oh well, we reluctantly headed back to the road and more or less stayed at the shoulder and side area as we enjoyed the wildflower show on our way back to where we parked. It was a little tricky as we needed to be mindful of the traffic as the shoulder is so narrow. We made it back to where we started and were happy with our morning.
We headed over to the DQ for some lunch. They forgot our order so we didn't get to eat for a while; good thing we ordered our Blizzards first. It actually worked great for me as I would have wanted to finish that first anyway.
as usual, haven't had a chance to review them yet.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
