| no partners | | I've been watching a lot of "good 'ol boys findin' arrowheads" videos on Youtube lately. I started thinking that maybe I could find more stuff like that on my walks if I tried harder. There are a couple of petroglyph sites in the Picacho Mountains I haven't been to and the people must have left other stuff (I recall @Petrophile has found points out that way) so this seemed like a good place to go and try harder.
So I slow-walked the first mile or so through the nice open desert scanning the ground. Didn't see a thing.
The petroglyph sites were fine. Not great - a lot of the rock is granite which is not the best canvas. After the walk I drove down to the canal's Picacho Pumping Plant site. There are nice petroglyphs on a rocky hill but they're fenced off by the canal authorities.
Worth mentioning: The main glyph site in the Picacho's is well documented in HAZ [ Picacho Mountains Petroglyph Sites ] .
I've been there a few times and the parking area is often crowded with ATVs and casual visitors. Today I noticed a "No Trespassing (State Trust permit required)" sign at the entrance to the parking area. This likely will reduce the visitation and maybe help sell the permits. |
