Needed to practice hiking in the warmer temperatures. Did the loop counterclockwise. Very near the start I heard a loud quail and then saw him on a branch very near me. It didn't move so I got the Pany out and filmed for a bit as he was telling the other birds something. I'm sure the other birds were thinking, "do you not see that human within a couple feet of you?" I got some good pics but during the video when I backed off a little, the quail went slightly out of focus, but you can hear him and that's really what I was filming.

I saw three hikers before I started up the northwestern side of the western humps. I also noticed this giant white spot on a rock outcropping in the distance below the summit. I would zoom toward it and during different points in my hike to try and figure out what it was. My lens was imitating LosDosSloFolks sleuthing skills and by nearly the end of the hike; the giant white spot was identified; and no, it was not a Chinese balloon :D .

It was a little warm for me so I was glad of the very nice breeze that blew for most of the hike. I saw a lizard and got a picture; saw several others but they were too fast for my lens. The Brittlebush is out enforce and in some areas is already fading but the Hedgehogs and Pincushions are making up for it so I got several photos of those beautiful blooms. The Scorpionweed was stinking it up in a few places.

When I was at Wendy's in Tucson on Thurs. I noticed her Brittlebush flowers had black centers where we mostly see the light brown centers out in the desert. But today, I did see the black-centered Brittlebush. Over on the east side of the mountain the Barrel cactus are starting their budding and blooms too; always so pretty. By the time I got over on the north side of the mountain; I got my final zooms of the white spot... where a huge chunk of rock had fallen out of the rock outcropping. It's amazing that I noticed it but when you've hiked an area over 100 times; you should probably be aware of that type of topography change.

I saw about a dozen hikers today. I was hiking slower than I thought :( , could have been picture taking... My one minute Quail [ youtube video ]

one poppy, lots of blooming Brittlebush, Hedgehogs and Pincushions starting to bloom. Barrels are starting to bud. Some Scorpionweed still around as well. Saw a Desert Senna starting to bloom.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
