| no partners | | I had never been to the Desert Hills Trailhead in the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve because every time I hiked over there, they were still building it. I decided to go and hike those trails and visit the trailhead to see how that area ended up.
this was an enlongated loop of the Ocotillo, Sidewinder and Ridgeback Trails, with a middle section that connected 2 loops. I had considered a figure 8 briefly, but decided against it. It might have been a better idea since it delayed the climbs up the hills until later in the morning when the heat was a bit stronger.
Saw about the same amount of bikers and hikers. Temperature wasn't too bad, even had some nice breezes here and there. The climbs at the end were a bit of pain, but that was more mental. Once I was going uphill, it wasn't bad at all. Everything out there is now brown and burnt, might have been more interesting in the spring with the flowers blooming, but I had other trails to hike then. |
