| no partners | | Got an early 5:30am start. it was dark when I pulled into the parking lot, but by the time I was on the trail there was enough light to not need a headlamp. headed out on the Javelina Canyon Trail to the National Trail and continued westbound on the National until its junction with Corona de Loma. Hiked to the top of a small hill at that junction before I turned around.
took Hidden Valley on the way back. Some of that has some dicey spots I forgot about. I slipped on the smooth rock at one point and lost the trail briefly before getting back on track. Ended up in Pima Canyon and made my way over to the Beverly Canyon TH to finish up.
the weather was much cooler than it's been and it made a big difference. The climb up Javelina Canyon wasn't much effort. Hiked in the shade for the first 2.5 miles, which helped. The heat started to kick in the last 2 miles but fortunately the climbing was done by then. Lots of traffic, both bikers and hikers early on. Finished up around 10:30am, made pretty good time. |
