Started up near the north end of the trail in Harrison Hills Park and headed south. Initially I took a wrong turn and started hiking the trails in the parking, thinking I was on my way out. I quickly figured out this mistake and headed out. The first part went across a major thoroughfare and then through a neighborhood before getting back into the very green forested area. My turnaround point came where I left off last summer at the bottom of a paved road after the trail left the forest. The humidity was brutal. There were some storms overnight and it was overcast and muggy the entire time. Not long after starting, I was drenched.
When I got back to the park, I had only done about 5 miles, so I hiked into the park another mile and turned around, taking some different trails back, which also turned out to be trails I hadn’t hiked before. The last ¾ of a mile, I saw about 5 deer, the last of which was a buck in felt. Nice to get out in a different environment from the AZ heat for a couple hikes, although the humidity on this one made up for the cooler temperature. |
