| no partners | | Finally made my way out east to Pacheta Falls and did some exploring. The White Mountain Apache tribal site says you can buy permits at the Sinclair on 60 & 73 which is a lie. We then went to the casino to buy them only to be told the falls were closed. Cibecue is closed not Pacheta, no matter he wasn't going to listen to me. Finally at the third stop, the ski shop on 260 we were successful. A maze of 20+ mile dirt roads to get there, some pretty overgrown but finally found the 'parking area' to the falls. Took some pics and explored the top of the falls and creek area and right before we were going to find a route down, we heard our first rumble of thunder, so there went that plan. Just as we started back we saw a lightning flash and thunder basically on top of us, so the pace quickly increased. Made it back to the truck right as the rain and hail started dropping the temps down to the mid 50's which felt great. Waited for the rain to slow a little before making the drive back out, with some of the roads now turned into a mud bog. Made a stop at Hawley Lake and Upper Log Cabin before heading back to the valley of heat. Caught another storm in Globe and followed it to Superior where it died out but not before starting a brush fire at the tower at Florence Junction. Tons of Elk and Turkey's all day but no other 2 legged animals from Reservation Lake on. Long day but the WM's are always worth the drive. |
