After a long hike Sunday my plan today was a quick and easy 6 miler doing the Garden Valley, Hackberry Spring loop. A cold start to the hike with only a couple cars in the parking lot. Made my way up to Garden Valley with a quick stop over at the arch that Andy showed me last time out this way. Stopped by Hackberry Spring for a few and made my way down First Water Creek. As I exited the small canyon and got to the flat rock area, I attempted to jump from one rock to the next when I felt a pop in my right calf. At first I thought I hit it on something but as I tried to stand up, I realized it was more then that. The 'pop' was my calf muscle tearing when I attemped to jump. I sat there for a little bit, hoping it would feel better but unfortunately it did not. I had about a mile to get back to the TH, so it was a very slow one legged wobble back. My calf is pretty swollen and bruised, I've been icing it trying to get the swelling down and I'll see how it feels tomorrow, but it looks like I'm out of action for a little while. I feel fortunate that I was only a mile out instead of being isolated somewhere on the east side. So much for an easy hike.
