The last day of our White Mountains getaway, we went to the Pacheta Falls. Many outfits sell the Black River Special Use permits on the drive in from Showlow. We used the track from Tortoise Hiker, which approached the fall from along the creek. On our drive in not far from where we parked, we saw a big bore, probably a healthy 350 plus lbs - in a ravine. The biggest AZ bear I'd seen. While he took off running, he stopped a few times to check us out. But we were not able to get a pic of it because of the bumpy ride. It sure was exciting though. The fall itself was spectacular. I went down the chute into the canyon and explored to the bottom of the fall while wife waited on the rim with Wiski. Not easy to drive to, but certainly worth the effort if you're in the area!
