The pass sits at the border between Montana and Idaho and represents the gateway into one of the most remote regions within the contiguous 48. There is a nice assortment of quality trails leading directly from the parking area at the pass.
This was just a little morning stroll and in keeping with last year's tradition, I started off by taking the wrong trail. Good hiking once we got on the right trail, a little deadfall, but nothing beyond the normal for these areas. Some nice parks and modest wildflower displays along the way. We turned around at the first obvious viewpoint for Castle Rock. |
