This was actually my second time hiking this portion of the trail, but I did not go to the falls this time, as rain was coming and I wanted to make sure I was settled at camp before it hit.
Immaculate trails as one would expect, not a lot of people on the trail, but this is rare for this trail and trailhead area.
This was me and Dot’s first hike of several over a 13 day period of camping, hiking and circumnavigating the entire Bitterroot Mountain Range. We spent the first few days in Stanley and then made our first forays into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, before relocating to Darby Montana for nearly a week to continue my exploration of the southern Bitterroot Wilderness. From there we headed west and then south to encircle the entire mountain range with stops at the remote Elk summit and a trip down highway 12 to explore the lower reaches of the famed Lochsa and Selway River systems. |
