| no partners | | | Wanted to assess the damage to Diamond Mtn after the fire. Smell of smoke was in the air but no source of smoke could be seen. Area appears to have received light rain overnight. Most of Diamond Mtn is pretty well torched with a few exceptions. Fire came all the way down to the hwy in a couple of spots. About 10 or 15 acres around O'Neil Spring appears to have been protected with fire retardant. All the roads west of hwy 87 are closed from at least Mt Ord turn off down to Sycamore Creek Bridge. 72 degrees just off the hwy on Mt Ord road at 730 AM. Had about 10 vultures circling overhead while hiking at one point. Also saw a hawk mixed in with the vultures. Also saw a squirrel, small snake and other birds. Rabbit scat. Took home some acorns and boiled, ate. Not bad. |
